What Happens Between the Stills
The finished portrait gets remembered. The reset rarely does.
During two days in Frank Widemann's studio, we worked inside the existing photo production, using the same setups, light and direction. While the stills were being made, we watched what happened around them: a hand adjusting fabric, a breath before the next frame, the moment a pose fell away.
Those fragments became the material for the motion pieces. We did not need to build a second production beside the first. The movement was already there, in the models' gestures and in the small exchanges that took place while the photographer prepared another image.
For SOULS and LENI, the aim was to stay close to Frank's photographs without repeating them. A still frame holds one decision. Film can keep the seconds around it: the approach, the pause and what happens just after.
The resulting snippets sit beside the photographs rather than explaining them. They preserve the part of the session that usually disappears when the shutter closes.
